Hi Shirley, he/she was like 3 or so inches big and dangling on a 6-foot roundish web in Jamaica. Of the 20 or so relatives hanging around, he/she was the only one in the right light... and with webbing everywhere, I lacked the motivation to jungle venture for another angle.

Silk orb-weavers (genus Nephila), commonly called golden orb-weavers, giant wood spiders, or banana spiders, are a genus of araneomorph spiders noted for the impressive weaved webs. Nephila consists of numerous species found in warmer regions around the world, and are the oldest surviving genus of spiders, with a fossilized specimen known from 165 million years ago.
